Color shift on Finnish 2nd class Baby Bear postage stamp

February 5th, 2010 admin

It’s been a long time since I showed some of the EFO’s, but I think they will match perfectly with my current writings about stamp quality. Here’s something I picked up last night from kiloware I had soaked few days earlier. The first below stamp is the normal copy, and beneath it is the “whacked”

Finnish Christmas postage stamps: Skating Santa
IMHO the 1995 Christmas postage stamps are bit like the day before the Christmas eve. You have a feeling there’s still plenty to do, but at the same time you feel to be adrift. The domestic discount rate stamp features a skating Santa: Normal (internatianal) rate stamp features poinsettias (Euphorbia pulcherrima) floating in front of  Read More →
Finnish Christmas postage stamps: Se-tenant angels
In 1986 the Finnish Post issued their first, and so far also the last, se-tenant Christmas postage stamp issue. At the same time Christmas postage stamps returned back to use of two separate face values: discounted rate for early domestic mail and regular rate stamps for normal and international delivery. The discounted se-tenant stamps feature  Read More →
And a case of good luck :)
Just to show a case of good luck in contrast to last post. This is something I found while sorting stamps I had soaked from kiloware… An Argentinian 10 peso definitive postage stamp issued in 1995. It looks like any modern day topical stamp, but if catalogs are to believe, this one is worth 30€  Read More →
Some statistics about my stamp exchange
As some know, I was visiting Helsinki, capital of Finland earlier this week. Though I had planned on writing some notes from the road, I didn’t manage to write a single line. Such is life, LOL. Anyway…While updating the summaries for my “open for all” stamp exchange page last night, I came up with  Read More →
Finnish Christmas postage stamps: O Christmas Tree
The 1981 Christmas postage stamps celebrate the Christmas tree. Like the 1980 stamp issue, the set contains two separate values and designs. Once again, the stamp displays an idyllic image of past Christmas times when it was common for people to cut their own Christmas tree. These days most Finns live in cities and Christmas trees  Read More →
Hungarian souvenir sheet for European Football Championships
Here’s something not so ordinary I found while soaking Hungarian kiloware during the Easter. It is a used 1972 souvenir sheet issued to commemorate Football European Championships in Belgium. Michel states that low value stamps (up to 2 forint) were issued both as normal sheet stamps (4  Read More →

A quick review of Norma 2010, a specialized catalog of Finnish stamps
Last thursday I managed to get a copy of “Norma 2010 – a specialized catalog of Finland postage stamps” from nearby public library. So I decided share yet another short catalog review. Stamps, quality and grading: The basics
Keeping on eye for the quality is something I think many collectors do. Personally I admit that I’m in constant process of enhancing the quality of items in my collection. For the next couple of posts I’ll be writing up some notes about quality in general as well as diving more in-depth into world  Read More →
Finnish Christmas postage stamps: Glory to God
The 1992 Christmas stamps are the very first Finnish stamps that focus entirely on religious side of Christmas. The domestic discount rate stamp displays a picture of early Christmas morning church. The Church of St. Lawrence (finnish: Pyhän Laurin kirkko) was established c. 1460, and it is one of most prestigious churches in Finland. The  Read More →
